History

IMG_0905.JPG

Stalybridge is in the foothills of the Pennines and has a 190-year history of Congregationalism.

The first meeting was believed to have taken place in Myles Schofield's Garret, Old Street in 1823 - 1830.

King Street Chapel opened in 1830 -1835.

Melbourne Street Chapel opened in 1835 - 1860.

Melbourne Street Church opened in 1860 - 1990 when sadly our Sunday School building was found to be structurally unsafe and
we finally closed its doors during November 1990.

We soon found that our Church Building was in a worse state and unfit for use.

We now Worship in our modern multipurpose Church on Baker Street just off Acres Lane. This was officially opened on 18th December 1999.
